Working Out While Away

So, in order to avoid the inevitable feeling of carrying an inner tube around one’s wait by week’s end, it’s necessary to get in at least a few workouts on vacation.  Luckily, our second home in Aruba, has a great fitness center that is just the right size to get a good, quick workout in prior to hitting the sand…

Although no one is actually expecting to lose weight while vacationing in paradise, staying healthy and starting our day with a good workout is important (even if just to minimize the bloating from a meal of red meat and fried plantains). My workouts were quick, easy and straight to the point.

I opted for a good strength workout on Day 1 that looked like this:

Warm up: 

  • Squats
  • Pushup
Workout: I completed each exercise with 15 reps and 3 sets each:
  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Bicep Curls
  • Shoulder Press
  • Tricep Kickbacks
  • Tricep Dips
  • Pushups
  • Abs (completed a total of 150 with a combo of different moves)

Free Weights

I felt strong and definitely broke a sweat on this one. On Day 2, I felt the need to really get a sweat going and completed 30 mins on the elliptical followed by pushups, squats, bicep curls, and shoulder pulls. Besides being a vacation workout, these past two days were a introduction back into healthy living after a 2 month hiatus from exercise while studying for the bar, so my quads are definitely feeling it tonight! I look forward to getting back to some free weights tomorrow and hopefully keep getting to the gym for the rest of the week!
Even if the workouts are only twenty minutes or so, it always helps to deflate the belly a bit and start the day off on the right foot.  Plus, getting the workout out of the way first thing in the morning, means more time to lounge, read, sun bathe and enjoy happy hour to the fullest!

    good for you working out! I like to try and go for a run on the beach if possible. like you said, no need to lose weight, but feels good to move..then lounge around!

    walking up the mountains in turkey is my workout! i really miss using free standing weights,i must push myself and get back into a routine 🙂
